Overnight closures of East- and Westbound I-80 at Northeast Mixmaster begin Aug. 25

DES MOINES, Iowa — Aug. 21, 2026 — Overnight closures on east- and westbound Interstate 80 at the Northeast Mixmaster may slow your trip starting Tuesday, Aug. 25, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation's Grimes construction office.

Crews will close east- and westbound I-80 and ramps overnight for emergency full-depth pavement patching and to install overhead sign truss.

Tuesday, Aug. 25

  • Full closure of eastbound I-80 and ramps, 10 p.m. to 4 a.m.
  • Closure of the northbound U.S. 65 ramp to westbound I-80, plus the middle lane of westbound I-80, 10 p.m. to 4 a.m.

Wednesday, Aug. 26

  • Full closure of both east- and westbound I-80 including ramps from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m., for overhead sign truss installation.
  • Crews may also patch eastbound I-80 during this closure.

Thursday, Aug. 27

  • Full closure of east- and westbound I-80 and ramps, 10 p.m. to 4 a.m., for overhead sign truss installation.
  • Emergency full-depth pavement patching on eastbound I-80, 10 p.m. to 4 a.m.

  • Full closure of eastbound I-80 and ramps, 10 p.m. to 4 a.m.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
