AMES, Iowa – Sept. 10, 2026 – Tell us what you think about the proposed culvert replacement on U.S. 6 in Jasper County. The project is located 0.25 miles east of East 60th Street, which is about 1 mile east of the Newton city limits.
Improvements include:
- Replace existing 8’ by 6’ reinforced concrete box (RCB) culvert with a 14’ by 10’ RCB culvert.
- Retaining walls will be constructed parallel to the roadway and revetment will also be used to limit erosion and stream migration.
Construction will take place starting in the spring of 2028 and will be completed by the fall of 2028.
U.S. 6 will be closed to traffic through the work zone. Traffic will be detoured to Iowa 224, Interstate 80, and Iowa Speedway Drive.
