AMES, Iowa – Sept. 14, 2026 – As Iowa prepares for another winter season, the Iowa Department of Transportation is partnering with the IowaWORKS mobile unit to host a multi‑city Snowplow Operator Hiring Event Series at Iowa DOT maintenance garages. These events aim to recruit more than 500 seasonal snowplow operators who play a vital role in keeping Iowa’s roads safe and communities connected during winter weather.

At each location, job seekers will be able to apply on site for any garage hiring in the area, meet Iowa DOT and IowaWORKS staff, ask questions about job responsibilities, schedules, and pay, and learn more about what it means to serve Iowans during winter storms.

Media outlets are invited to attend any event to help raise awareness within their communities and cover Iowa’s preparations for the coming winter months. Snowplow equipment and vehicles will be present on site, offering opportunities for visual footage and photography. Iowa DOT staff will also be available at every location for interviews.
