DES MOINES, Iowa — Sept. 23, 2026 — Two right lanes of westbound Interstates 35 and 80 will close overnight from Iowa 415/Second Avenue (Exit 135) to the Saylor Creek Bridge. The westbound on-ramp from Iowa 415/Second Avenue will also close, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation's District 1 Office.
Crews are closing the right two lanes of the road and the on-ramp to repair the bridge deck over Saylor Creek. The closures will last from 11:59 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 23, to 4 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 24.
During the ramp closure, drivers can reach westbound I-35/I-80 by using the on-ramps at:
- U.S. 69/East 14th Street (Exit 136)
- Merle Hay Road (Exit 131)
The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
