AMES, Iowa – Oct. 12, 2026 – The Iowa Department of Transportation and project partners will unveil a new Lincoln Highway Heritage Byway exhibit panel on Thursday, Oct. 15, 2026, on the grounds of the Iowa DOT headquarters at 800 Lincoln Way, Ames, Iowa. The media is invited to attend this outdoor unveiling. If weather prevents an outdoor unveiling, a ceremonial unveiling of the exhibit will take place inside the Iowa DOT complex.

As part of the National America 250 Celebration, this new exhibit panel shares the story of the historic Lincoln Highway and its significance in Iowa’s transportation history. Through a combination of historic photographs, maps, and narrative, the panel illustrates Iowa’s role in the development of the Lincoln Highway, from early engineering innovations and bridge design to the evolution of the highway’s stewardship and preservation.

The exhibit panel is located on the south side of Lincoln Way near the main entrance to the Iowa DOT complex.
