MASON CITY, Iowa — Oct. 14, 2026 — Ramps on southbound Interstate 35 at the Avenue of the Saints/U.S. 18 (exit 190) interchange south of Clear Lake will close at 7:30 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 19, weather permitting. The ramps will remain closed throughout the day until repair work on the roadway is completed at the ramp access points. The repair work is expected to be completed in one day, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Mason City construction office.

The closure will affect drivers on I-35 and U.S. 18.

  • There will be no marked detour route. A digital message board will guide drivers.
  • Drivers on westbound U.S. 18 who want to go south on I-35 should take I-35 north to Exit 193, turn around and head south.
  • Drivers on southbound I-35 who want to go east on east on U.S. 18 should continue south to Exit 188, exit, turn around and take northbound I-35 to Exit 190.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
