DES MOINES, Iowa – Oct. 21, 2026 – Crews will close the ramp from westbound Interstate 80 to westbound Interstate 235 from 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23, until 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 26, weather permitting, so work on the westbound I-235 bridge over Northeast Broadway Avenue can be completed. The closure may cause delays for drivers as westbound I-235 will be down to one lane during this project, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Grimes construction office.
Drivers should follow the marked detour. It sends drivers west on I-80 to U.S. 69/Northeast 14th Street at Exit 136. They will then go back east on I-80/I-35 to reach westbound I-235 at Exit 137A.
The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
