AMES, Iowa – Aug. 29, 2025 – Tell us what you think about proposed improvements to U.S. 69 at the intersection with NE 126th Avenue/72nd Street in Ankeny (Polk County).

Changes include the construction of a roundabout at the intersection to improve safety and reduce crashes.

During the construction of the roundabout, U.S. 69 will be closed and traffic will have the option of using a detour west or east of U.S. 69. The western detour will use NE 134th Avenue, County Road R56, and NE 118th Avenue. The eastern detour will use NE 134th Avenue, NE 22nd Street, and NE 54th Street.

Construction is expected to start spring of 2027 and end fall of 2027.

  • When: Thursday, Sept. 4, 2025, anytime between 5 and 6:30 p.m.
  • Location: Kirkendall Public Library, Council Chambers, 1250 SW District Dr., Ankeny, Iowa 50023
  • Description: You will be provided with information about the project, and you can talk through your ideas with our staff. There will be no formal presentation. The meeting space is accessible for people with disabilities. If you require more support at the meeting, please notify the contact listed below by Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2025.
