GRIMES, Iowa – Feb. 20, 2026 – If you drive on Interstate 35/I-80 between the Southwest Mixmaster and Iowa 141 you need to be aware of overnight road closures that may slow down your trip, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Grimes Construction office.
For our crews to hang overhead trusses for signs along the interstate, the following overnight closures between 10 p.m. and 4 a.m. are scheduled:
- Northbound I-35/I-80 will be closed to traffic on Sunday, Feb. 22. The backup date if weather is an issue is Monday, Feb. 23.
- Southbound I-35/I-80 will be closed to traffic on Wednesday, Feb. 25. The backup date if weather is an issue is Thursday, Feb. 26.
During these closures you will follow a marked detour route using NW Urbandale Drive, 100th Street, Valley West Drive, and I-235.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
